Zen Bistro is a small Thai place in Daytona Beach. The dinner menu has a selection of curries, noodle and rice dishes, and sauteed meals.
I tried the Fried Tofu ($3.95) appetizer, while my companion had the House Salad ($2.95).
The sweet and sour sauce that accompanied the tofu had a bitter bite to it, but the crushed peanuts had a nice taste and this was a fine appetizer. I had ordered the house salad on a previous visit and I can say the peanut salad dressing is delicious.
For our main course we both choose the Sweet & Spicy Peanut Sauce Dish with vegetables ($9.95). Sauces are normally prepared with fish or oyster sauce; we asked that ours be prepared vegetarian. Vegan preparation is also an option. Our meals were served with a large ball of sticky jasmine rice.
The portions were very generous and we both had enough food to have a second full meal of leftovers later in the week at home. Twice the delicious Thai food = WIN!
Mine was prepared hot, which was a good deal spicier than medium. But I think I might have enjoyed it hotter! Next time I’ll go for “Thai hot.”
The service in the small dining room was very good. We were attended by several wait staff and all were prompt and courteous and our food and drinks were served and refilled in good time. Zen Bistro seems to be a very popular spot, for good reason. It was busy both times we have visited and I have heard the lunch crowd packs in full.
